One of the ladies in my writing group gave me this advice about writing my blog:
“A good story is like a good dress, long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to make it interesting.”
So this expansive topic: “Marketing, Mindset, Money and Invader Zim” will be covered in three blog entries. I like a good dress.

Marketing, Mindset, Money and Invader Zim (part 1)
I got to play like a child today. I mean I voiced a child and had the joy of experiencing their outlook on life. I’m so glad I had that experience. Because now I must go home and find a way to make marketing as fun as performing, a feat I have yet to accomplish, as performing kids is always much more fun than marketing…as an adult. (Which is why, I started a blog…to make it more fun.) However, marketing is a “must do” in today’s fast-paced voice over world to compete and get yourself out there. But I’m lucky, as I got my creative energy expressed today. I got to laugh, and not think and just be inspired by the little things, like a snowflake or a big burp.
Things you forget to laugh about as an adult, when you are driving home in rush hour traffic or you have to….
MARKET!!!!
Oh, okay. That’s not as fun as giggling like a 3 year old imaginary animal. Big Sigh. Big Burp. (No, I can’t burp on cue, but I wish I could.) I definitely have to market to get to “fun-ner” parts of voice over. I do know how to market and once I get on a role…or roll, I’m pretty good at it. It’s like brushing your teeth; a habit you have to do daily. I like to brush my teeth. It feels good. Minty. Fresh.
One lady that inspired me to feel minty fresh about my marketing is Laura Roeder.

I just started following her and I’m doing her weekly simple lessons for marketing on the internet. She even has other voice over actors who use her work! Kevin Delaney is one of them. (Oooo… I just learned how to highlight and link a name to a person’s website on Word Press. Exciting. Back to my blog.)
I heard about Laura on Kevin’s site for Voice Over. Some of his interviews are really interesting. (More about that later.)
I have yet to buy any of Laura’s on-line products, and I’ve only met Kevin in passing (happens a lot in the voice over world…meeting in passing), however, she is the reason I’m doing a blog. My first assignment was to write 10 possible topics for my new blog. It took 10 minutes for me to do. Posting this blog and learning Word Press took a bit longer, but I got ahead of the game and without an assignment to post those 10 topics, I’m already inspired and doing it! And…here we are.
Acting on “inspiration” and talking about what and who inspires me is going to be in the next section of this article, so stay tuned….
Laura got me going on blogging, and the next guy got me acting more on my intuition and inspiration. I hope the journey of “Jessica’s Voice” will be enjoyable and fun for all. Including me.
