Yes. This is a voice over blog. Sort of. It’s going to start that way and I’ll see where it leads me. Because having a voice over career, is not only something you have to have talent and technical skills for, but you also have to be comfortable just being yourself. Or being you inside of a character. Also, being “by yourself” when you work, as I am most of the time. Just me and the microphone, and perhaps the director, producers, and engineer on the other side of the glass. Voice over has helped me become more myself. But more about that another time. For now, I’ll just talk about the business and my experience in it.
I’ve been a voice over artist for ten years or so. I do think it’s time for me to have a blog. Or at least it seems to be the cool thing to do. The time has come to voice my voice in a different way. If you are new to voice over and wondering what the heck a voice over artist does, you can find my credits on my website www.jessicastraus.com, Wikipedia, IMDB, and even view some of my work on Youtube.
I do like what I do. It’s a really fun job (most of the time). It is a business that is not as easy to get into as many people assume. So, I do count myself one of the “lucky ones” to be able to get the work in the competitive, wonderful, wacky world of voice over acting.
So, welcome reader(s) and thanks for stopping by. I’ll be posting blogs as often as I can find the time. Doing a weekly blog is my goal, but sometimes voice over can get busy and I may fall behind. And that’s okay. This blog is going to be the little section of my life that is not a “to do” pressure. Voice over has many last- minute deadlines that keep me busy, so I’d like to give myself a “deadline break”. That said, since I belong to a writing group and have set aside special time to write, I may have more to share here than I think.
And, yes, if you are a game/animation fan I will write about that, as it definitely is a big part of my career and vocal passions thus far…so stay tuned. Thanks for being part of my first blog.
